Happy 2nd Birthday, Maddie Claire!

We had a nice birthday celebrating at home with our family.  Granny and Papa drove from Dallas that day and were able to make it in time for dinner, cake, and some presents!

Happy 2nd Birthday, Madelyn Claire! We love you!

She insisted on playing with everything she opened, so this went on for hours!

Waiting in line to see Santa.  She hated Santa and cried so hard we had to just leave.  She seemed very excited in line.

We are Thankful - Thanksgiving 2013

Thanksgiving!

This year we hosted Nay Nay and Papa (Shawn's parents) for Thanksgiving.  They came up Tuesday night and stayed with us until Saturday afternoon.  Maddie really enjoyed having her Nay Nay and Papa around to play with and I enjoyed the time to cook!

We had a yummy Thanksgiving breakfast, watched the parade, had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner, and then enjoyed dessert and games with Brett and Jen.

Here is a sneak peak at our Thanksgiving feast...

Cajun Fried Turkey by Gary (this was particularly yummy)
Collard Greens Southern Style by Sheila
Sweet Potato casserole (the real food version -- sugar free and it was yummy)
Mashed Potatoes (courtesy of my Aunt Nancy)
Stuffing (made with homemade buttermilk cornbread)
Gravy
Cranberry Sauce
Handmade rolls

Dessert: Pumpkin Cheesecake and Skillet Apple Pie with handmade crust :)

I enjoy cooking/baking and really enjoy making Thanksgiving dinner, but boy is it exhausting!  I was lucky to have great help with cleaning up and cooking.  I worked most of Wednesday, so that I could enjoy Thursday morning's parade...it was a good plan!

Our first Thanksgiving in our new house...

Fried Turkey done by Gary

Apple Pie in a skillet (I got the crust made and realized I lost my pie plate...oops!)

Place Settings at our brand new dining room table (we don't have our chairs yet, but our old mismatched ones worked well)

New table linens and chargers :)

Maddie had her own fine dining set (that was mine when I was little)

We ate on our wedding china...

...and with my grandparent's silver :)
