Sweet Home Alabama! Welcome to the newest edition of "Christina tries to blog!"
I am hoping to be able to keep everyone up to date with what we are doing now that we have moved to the Magic City and officially know like 2 people. :)
How did we get here...
Well if anyone knows my husband, he is very ambitious (what I love and don't love about him all at the same time). He has always been curious to put his resume out and now that he finished his CPCU (remember our Vegas trip) and his masters, he had the resume to do it. After listening to me talk about my lack of job satisfaction, he asked if he could put his resume out and I said yes (thinking nothing much would come of it). Well within weeks he had multiple job interviews (I guess I was in denial). We really thought we'd end up in Atlanta, but when an opportunity came to go to Birmingham we decided to just go for it. Birmingham is only 4 hours from Shawn's family and he has a cousin here, so this seemed like a good place to go. Everything happened so fast. Shawn accepted the job on April 30th, we put our house on the market May 1st, sold our house on May 3rd, Shawn moved to B'ham on May 18th, and now we are all here! There was a 4 week period where I stayed to finish the school year in Orlando and Shawn was up here. Luckily, we had help from friends, neighbors, and my mom. The end of the year is always busy with band concerts, cleaning, closing out the year, and not to mention the four baby showers I had in a five week time period! After turning in my keys to my classroom and our house, I was finally able to focus on all things Alabama. Maddie, Noah and I drove up here on June 22nd to put our family back together. We all lived with Shawn's wonderful cousin, Jennifer and her husband Brett while we looked for a house. The first week was very overwhelming and I decided to go from "find a job" mode to "find a house" mode. I finally put together a huge list of houses and just started driving around town everyday. After narrowing things down, we did a one day all out house hunt. Maddie wasn't as thrilled with the idea of going into house after house as we were. :) The third house we went into was the first one that we both really liked and became the one we compared everything else to. After the day was over we had our top three, but kept coming back to the third house we saw. We went back to the house two more times and decided to finally put an offer in. The house had been vacant for a few years and on/off the market due to the health of the owner who had passed away from cancer. Her daughters were selling it from Georgia and I think they were just happy that it found new owners.
We closed on our new house on July 26th and moved in on July 31st. Now that we have internet, I can post some pictures of our new house, the changes we already have done, and of course our sweet Maddie Claire. (I guess it was meant to be when we gave Madelyn a Southern nickname)
Y'all come back now!
Christina
