June 2014

June 2014

Summer is here!

Many of our normal activities stop in May when school gets out so have adapted a new schedule and have been enjoying as much summer fun as we can!

- Took pictures for daddy for Father's day
- We read lots and lots of Little Critter books.  Maddie is in love with this series.  We own about ten books and then we go to the library once a week and check out more.  We have checked out over 20 critter books this month!  After reading them a few times she memorizes them and reads them back to herself.
- Started ballet class at the Children's Dance Foundation.  She goes to class on Thursday morning and it is super cute!  She wears her tights, leotard, and ballet shoes.  They have been working on galloping, jumping, marching forwards and backwards, and following lots of directions!
-  Went to the Tannehill State Park one Saturday with mommy and daddy.  We packed a picnic lunch, played, walked to the waterfall, and rode the train!
-  Went to her first outdoor movie!  We packed a picnic dinner, brought lawn chairs, and watched Frozen...she loved it!
-  Took a trip to the zoo on a hot, hot day, so we brought our bathing suit and played in the splash pad!
-  Ate a lot of dinners outside early in the month and then the mosquitos came out in force so we have been staying away from hanging outside at night.
-  Went with daddy to Bass Pro on Father's Day.  Maddie really enjoyed seeing the fish and all the stuffed animals there.  She of course loved that daddy took her for pizza and ice cream!
-  Started a Friday night tradition of homemade pizza.  We make our own crust together and Maddie helps put on the toppings.  She especially likes picking the fresh basil from our plant and eating the cheese while she puts it on the pizza!
-  Went to the mall one hot afternoon and rode the carousel.  Maddie is usually always wanting to ride on the bench, but this time she rode the horse and thought it was great!
-  Spent a lot of time at the pool.  We try to go to the pool about 3 times a week.  We go a few afternoons, usually one morning, and then sometime we go on Saturday or Sunday depending on what's going on.  Maddie has really been enjoying the water and playing with her friends there.  She is getting more comfortable in the water and has started to kick pretty well.
-  Took a day trip to Atlanta.  It was cousin Zuzu's 3rd birthday so Uncle John and Aunt Geri drove down from NY.  We had not seen them in 2 years so we decided to drive over and spend the afternoon.  Since we were over there we went to IKEA to get Maddie a dresser and a playroom organizer.  We also stopped by the Varsity for dinner before heading back to Birmingham.  It was a no nap day, 5 total hours in the car, and a total of 12 hours gone from house.  Considering all of that she did very well and went right to sleep when we got home!
